Field Overview

After discovery, the early years (1960’s thru 80s) of Pinedale development generated poor results. This was due to poor geologic understanding and ineffective completion technology for what was then considered ‘tight sands’. In 1997, McMurry Oil went up-dip from Pinedale and drilled successful wells utilizing new completion designs, marking the birth of Jonah Field. Both fields have been aggressively developed ever since.

Operators ventured into other areas of the Greater Green River and found fields which led to sub-dividing into the Great Divide, Vermillion, and Washakie Basins in Wyoming, and the Sand Wash Basin in Colorado. For our purposes, we define the Green River Basin as all production within Lincoln, Sublette, Sweetwater, and Uinta Counties in Wyoming.

Today, operators are taking enhanced completion technologies learned in other basins and applying them to the fields in the GRB where, generally speaking a 2,000-4,000’ column exists with multiple targets.

We like the upside of these areas and believe that in time enhanced completions will bring more consistent results to these areas.
